Cookery students from East Gippsland TAFE’s Bairnsdale and Sale-Fulham campuses recently competed in the State Final of the annual AUS TAFE cookery competition held in Moorabbin.

Trisha Comer, Marion Anderson, Samantha Loughran, Ebony Legge, Tiffany Laidlaw and Melanie Papps all received bronze medals with Chanelle Jenilek picking up silver.

Martin Grundy, Operations Manager for Hospitality and Service Industries, said “The competition is a great opportunity for students in regional areas to compete against their peers from Metropolitan TAFE Institutes. These fantastic results demonstrate that their skills are comparable with others from around the State. Results like these are a huge confidence booster for students and their futures in the industry.”

Anyone interested in studying Cookery is invited to attend the Hospitality and Service Industries Open Day to be held at East Gippsland TAFE’s Bairnsdale campus on Friday 23 October from 3-8pm. As well as providing helpful information on courses for 2010, the event will include interactive demonstrations, a Gourmet BBQ, tasting plates and dessert making.
