The Eastern Gippsland Arts & Recreation Access Group (EGARAG) and East Gippsland TAFE are pleased to announce the introduction of two new scholarships for local students either living with a disability or studying in the area of disability support.

The two new EGARAG Scholarships will be available in 2010:

Scholarship One - $2,500
Available to a person with a disability who is studying, or intending to study, a qualification through East Gippsland TAFE at Certificate III level or above.

The scholarship is designed to assist with the further education expenses and enable a local person who is living with a disability, to experience a full life in the community through studying towards a qualification at Certificate III level or above.

Scholarship Two - $2,500
Available to an individual who is studying, or intending to study, a disability-related course at Diploma level or above through East Gippsland TAFE.

The scholarship is designed to assist a local person who is either working or seeking to work in the disability sector, and who is focused on the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life, particularly recreation, arts and culture.

Ms Angela Hutson, CEO at East Gippsland TAFE said, “We are delighted to announce the introduction of the EGARAG Scholarships. These scholarships offer support to people for areas that are recognised in need. The scholarships will support recipients through their studies and help them achieve their career aspirations, which is fantastic.”

The EGARAG Scholarships will be provided annually through a trust fund administered by East Gippsland TAFE on behalf of Eastern Gippsland Arts & Recreation Access Group (EGARAG) committee, which will shortly dissolve.

Ms Leanne Wishart, EGARAG President, said: “Our aim has always been to ensure that people with disabilities have access to full participation in all aspects of work and community life within the Gippsland region. These scholarships are a fitting legacy to our organisation. We wish the future recipients all the very best with their studies and future careers.”

To be eligible, applicants must meet the selection criteria and be living within the East Gippsland or Wellington Shires.
