Ten students from the George Gray Centre in Maffra, who are currently studying their Certificate I in Work Education with East Gippsland TAFE, will hold an art exhibition on 25 November to showcase their works.

East Gippsland TAFE is supporting the local community by allowing Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Co. Inc. to use the student cafeteria at the Bairnsdale campus of TAFE for a production called Nostalgia beginning on Friday 6 November.

The Hospitality, Service Industries and Equine team of East Gippsland TAFE held a Twilight Festival incorporating their Open Day on Friday 23rd October at the Bairnsdale campus.
Students undertaking Events qualifications co-ordinated and ran the event as part of their final assessment for 2009 under the guidance of their trainer, Michelle Ross.
Anne Rigg, the Manager of the department said “this is the second largest event these students have organised. They have developed numerous skills that will ensure they are work ready.”

East Gippsland TAFE’s Farmtech students have just completed their year of competition at the Gippsland Beef Challenge at Sale with fantastic results.
This year two steers were entered into the Hoof, Hook and Hide Competition with Farmtech winning first place in six categories and second place in 4 categories along with three champion titles.

The Eastern Gippsland Arts & Recreation Access Group (EGARAG) and East Gippsland TAFE are pleased to announce the introduction of two new scholarships for local students either living with a disability or studying in the area of disability support.
The two new EGARAG Scholarships will be available in 2010 and valued at $2,500 each.

Deakin University and East Gippsland TAFE signed an agreement today to bring the Deakin at Your Doorstep Program to Gippsland next year, enabling the regions residents to study a new Associate Degree of Arts, Business and Sciences at East Gippsland TAFE’s Bairnsdale Campus.

Educational innovation has emerged as a driving force in Victoria’s East, with education becoming both an important industry sector and one of the pillars of the region’s current and future prosperity.
As an industry the Education sector generates over $125 million per annum for the regional economy (2006 figure). Education is also a regional export for Victoria’s East with almost half of East Gippsland TAFE’s commercial income coming from outside the region. “We deliver a range of specialist courses throughout Victoria and Australia through a range of delivery modes including on line and face to face training to students from places as far flung as Darwin, Perth and FNQ, as well as delivering a full range of training courses for the local community.” explained East Gippsland TAFE CEO Angela Hutson.

The Green Loans Program and Nation Building Stimulus plan introduced by the Australian Government are “good news for local tradespeople looking to expand their business and offer a great service to their customers and their community” says Mr Fred Vanderslik from East Gippsland TAFE. To support local tradespeople with gaining the right skills and qualifications to maximise these initiatives, East Gippsland TAFE has introduced a new Home Sustainability Assessor course.

Australian Technical College - Gippsland (ATC-G) transitions to Gippsland Technical College (G-TEC) – a division of East Gippsland TAFE
Following the announcement by The Hon Julia Gillard MP, Deputy Prime Minister on 4 May 2009, East Gippsland Institute of TAFE confirms that from Monday 3 August 2009, the ATC-Gippsland will be integrated into the operations of East Gippsland TAFE (EG TAFE).
The College will be renamed as Gippsland Technical College (G-TEC), a division of East Gippsland TAFE.

And no-one, whether a vulnerable person or not, wants to catch this flu if they can avoid doing so.....

A local apprentice and graduate from East Gippsland TAFE Mr Tom Justice won two prestigious awards at the 2009 Master Builders Association’s Victorian Apprentice Awards. The gala evening was attended by over 600 people at Melbourne Park Function Centre.
The two awards received by Mr Justice included:
- the Gippsland Regional Apprentice of the Year Award and
- the State Employer Nominated Apprentice of the Year Award.
