SEAMEC focuses on providing training and assessment services to the:
- commercial maritime and fishing sectors, including aquaculture
- recreational market, including recreational boaters and anglers.
SEAMEC has two large, well-appointed classrooms, a mechanical workshop equipped with mechanical equipment and engine systems, a simulated wheel house, a large aquaculture training and research area and a large open space for practical rope work training.
Current certificates of competency and endorsements delivered by SEAMEC include:
- Deckhand – Certificate I in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations)
- Coxswain – Certificate II in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations)
- Master Class 5/Skipper 3 – Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations)
- Master Class 4/Skipper 2 – Certificate IV in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations)
- Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 – Certificate II in Transport and Distribution (Marine Engine Driving)
- Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 – Certificate III in Transport and Distribution (Marine Engine Driving)
- Marine Radio Operations
- Lakes Entrance Bar Endorsement
- CPR update
- First Aid Level 2
- Pre-sea Certificate I in Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations)
- Inland coxswain for commercial operators.
In addition, specific courses have been designed to meet community needs and improve the skills and knowledge of the recreational boating community, including:Lakes Entrance Bar Crossing
- OHS Fire Warden training
- Victorian Recreational Boat Operator's Licences
- Orientation tours of the Gippsland Lakes.
